Choose the right pressure cooker size

Be careful with the size as the wrong size can be problematic. Small size pressure cooker force you to cook multiple times at the same time a very large pressure cooker size means so much fuel to heat the cooker and much cleaning effort. The main decision factor is family size. If yours is small family size, then 3-liter pressure cooker size is enough. For a big family or joint family, 5 to 7.5 liters pressure cooker size is fine. The pressure cooker for baby food means the right size is of 1 liter to 1.5 liters.

Induction stove compatibility

If you are using an induction stove, make sure the pressure cooker is marked as Induction Stovetop Compatible. In the product description of the page look for induction stove compatibility. By nature, hard anodized pressure cookers are not induction compatible, but the manufacturer can make the bottom little differently so that it can work on an induction stove as well. The usual keywords to look for in the product description - “With Induction Bottom”.

Dishwasher safe pressure cookers

This feature is important only if you are using dishwashers for cleaning the utensils. Otherwise, it is not needed. In general, hard anodized pressure cookers are not dishwasher safe. Aluminum and stainless steel pressure cookers are good to go with a dishwasher. Look for “Dishwasher-Safe” keyword if you are keen on buying the dishwasher safe cookers.

Inner lid vs Outer Lid

Pressure cookers come in two models with inner lid and outer lid based on the lid type. In the inner lid models, the top of the lid goes inside of the cooker. Whereas in the outer lid model, the top of the lid stays outside of the cooker container. In general, the large size pressure cooker use outer lids and small cookers sizes make use of inner lids. It is considered as that inner lid types are safer compared to the outer lid as they employ extra lock-in mechanism to hold the build up the extra pressure.
